- All items or projects requiring institutional review shall be directed through the appropriate supervisor to the Office of the President.
- Federal and state laws and regulations regarding institutional review of research and projects shall guide determination of the need for forwarding items to the Office of the President.
- Requests for institutional review shall be in writing and conform to relevant federal and state laws and regulations.
- Any item/project from an external entity must have an internal sponsor who will follow the process noted in A.1 and A.2 above.
- The President or designee shall establish an Institutional Review Board on an ad hoc basis to evaluate the compliance with federal and state laws and regulations of any proposed applicable research or project.
- The Institutional Review Board (IRB) shall comprise 3-5 college employees, with at least two members having professional experience in academic research. The Board shall elect its own chair.
- The IRB will review any proposed research or project utilizing institutional review guidelines as summarized by an academic professional association such as the American Psychological Association. As an example of such guidelines, the most recent APA document may be reviewed: IRB Guide to College Planning
- Within thirty days of formation, the IRB will provide a written report and recommendation on the proposed research or project to the President or designee. Should the IRB recommend approval of the research or project, the President or designee shall determine if said research/project is in the College’s best interest and approve or deny the request.
- The Office of the President shall then respond in writing to the original applicant and the applicant’s supervisor.
- In the event that a college employee or student is conducting research for another institution, that institution’s Institutional Review process shall take precedence. In such a case, no research shall be conducted by a college employee or student until the President or designee receives evidence of the home institution’s IRB approval.
