In recognition of service to Northland Pioneer College, regular employees who (1) retire after 15 or more years of service; (2) are eligible for retirement under the rules of ASRS will be formally recognized for their service by the College.
- Emeritus: Northland Pioneer College will provide emeritus recognition to faculty, administrators and administrative staff who retire after having worked for the college for 15 or more years and are eligible for retirement.
- Meritorious Service: Northland Pioneer College will provide meritorious service recognition to non-exempt employees who retire after 15 or more years of employment with the college and are eligible for retirement.
- Other Nominations: There may be individuals who work for the college less than 15 years and retire who are deserving of recognition as either emeritus or meritorious service. In these cases any member of the college community may make a written nomination and recommendation to the college president to award the appropriate designation because of their significant contribution to the college while employed. The letter of nomination and recommendation must be made within one year of the retirement of the person so nominated. The nomination and recommendation must list the significant contributions to the college and why the individual should be designated to receive emeritus or meritorious service designation. These individuals, if approved, will be recognized and will be listed in the college catalog with such designation.
- An Emeritus by definition is honorary and carries no formal authority or status for the conferee. Those receiving emeritus designation are entitled to:
- Appropriate recognition presented normally at convocation.
- Formal listing as emeritus in the college catalog
- A college ID card with emeritus designations
- A standing invitation to all forums, convocations. Or other college-wide functions
- A lifetime pass to college activities, such as performing arts, etc.
- Library services
- Receipt of college publications
- Eligibility to serve, by invitation, on certain advisory groups
- Items 3, 5, and 6 are extended to spouses of emeritus faculty/administrators
- Meritorious service designation by definition is honorary and carries no formal authority or status for the conferee. Those receiving meritorious service designation are entitled to:
- Appropriate recognition presented normally at convocation.
- A college ID card with meritorious service designations
- A standing invitation to all forums, convocations, or other college-wide functions
- A lifetime pass to college activities, such as performing arts, etc.
- Library services
- Receipt of college publications
- Eligibility to serve, by invitation, on certain advisory groups
- Items 3, 5, and 6 are extended to spouses of meritorious service staff
- The President will make a direct recommendation to the District Governing Board that Emeritus/Meritorious Service status be conferred upon a retired or retiring faculty member, administrator or staff member.
