The college has adopted the procedures laid out in the Bad Checks Manual issued by the State of Arizona. As the State of Arizona deems writing a Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) check to be a misdemeanor, the check may be turned over to the County Attorney for collection.
When the college receives a Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) check from the bank, the following steps will be taken:
- The individual will receive a notice via certified letter from the college for the NSF check and any associated processing fees, as set by the Board-approved fee schedule.
- The individual/student must pay the full amount of the NSF check and fees to the college within seven (7) business days of receiving the certified letter.
- If the amount due is not resolved within the 7-day period, the individual/student will be dropped from their courses for non-payment.
- If the balance remains on the account after 90 days, the account will be turned over to a collection agency for recovery.
