A balance of emotional and communal connections is evidenced through the talent of artists from throughout Navajo and Apache counties whose works are currently displayed in Northland Pioneer College’s (NPC) Talon Gallery’s Locally Grown Fall 2024 exhibition.
The Locally Grown art show runs through December 6 at the gallery, located on NPC’s Show Low campus, and is free and open to the public. This year’s exhibition was juried by Cyd Peroni, a professional photographer who experiments with digital, traditional, and alternative photographic processes. Her work is strongly influenced by poetry and the metaphors found in the natural world.
“I feel honored to have had the opportunity to review the work of this talented creative community,” Peroni explained, “The diversity of media submitted was so exciting and made the process wonderfully challenging. I spent time with each submission and was impressed by the artist’s thoughtfulness.” For this exhibition, Peroni said, “My most important aim was to select pieces that fit the theme of locally grown and then to curate work that would fit together as a cohesive whole.” She continued, “There was clearly a sense of place and emotion within the work submitted. The selected subject matter reflects the landscape and the people, animals, and plants living within it. From a moonlit night to a sun-drenched river, from the sweet kitten to the majestic mountain lion, from a mother’s tender gaze to the weathered horseman.” She said the art “told stories and conveyed feelings that are worth sharing.”
Locally Grown is an annual exhibition of art in any media. Drawings, paintings, pottery, sculptures, quilts, jewelry, or any other original or unique artwork, including functional items, may be submitted. You must be 18 or older to enter the exhibit. First, second, and third-place selections win cash prizes. The winners of this year’s exhibit will be announced during an awards ceremony and closing reception on Friday, December 6, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Talon Gallery.
The Talon Gallery is located in the Aspen Center on NPC's Show Low – White Mountain Campus, 1001 W. Deuce of Clubs. The gallery is open to the public Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed on weekends and college holidays.
