Children’s "Seussical Kids" theatre, quilt camp, arts and crafts, Mexican folklore dancing, video game design, and teen wellness and mindfulness are just some of the Kids College classes being offered to 6 to 14-year-olds this summer at Northland Pioneer College (NPC). These in-person kids classes and workshops will be offered at NPC’s Show Low, Holbrook, Winslow, and Snowflake, locations from June through July.
“The popular Dr. Seuss-themed “Seussical Kids” theatre program is back again this summer and is gearing up to be better than ever,” says Melissa Willis, NPC Community and Corporate Learning Specialist. Directed by the talented Sandy Ballard, the program will be offered at the Performing Arts Center on NPC’s Snowflake campus. “In this class, kids will build confidence, develop creativity, and learn the fundamentals of acting, singing, and dancing. They will have a chance to explore their talents and gain valuable skills that will empower them on and off the stage,” explains Willis. Kids don’t need to be residents of Navajo or Apache counties to take part in the Kids College program. Willis notes, “Many of the classes are one or two-day classes, so area visitors can enroll children as they see fit.”
Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous angel, NPC Friends and Family, the non-profit organization that supports NPC students, has scholarships available for every child who wants to participate in Kids’ College this summer. The scholarship application period is open now. Parents must apply before the date the class is being offered. Visit http://npc.edu/kids-college-scholarship to apply.
Register for Kids College online at www.npc.edu/kids-college. You may also visit any NPC location during regular business hours, or call (928) 536-6244 or email ccl@npc.edu. Parents are encouraged to sign their kids up for classes at least three days before the class begins to ensure the class is not canceled due to insufficient enrollment. Classes and locations are being added to the schedule, so check back often.
NPC’s Community and Corporate Learning Division will also host Learning Adventure Excursions for adults looking for group activities and area exploration. “The summer adventures begin with our first trip of the season on Thursday, June 13, to the Meteor Crater,” says Jamie Cox, Community and Corporate Learning Specialist for the northern NPC area. “You can learn the mystery behind the crater and experience a guided rim trail tour with us.” A trip to the historic La Posada hotel will take place on July 9, and an exploration of the Hidden Cove Petroglyph Park in Holbrook is planned for September 13. Transportation to and from the adventure locations will be provided. Visit www.npc.edu/excursions for more information and to register.
NPC also offers a variety of fun non-credit personal interest classes, including popular classes on making pottery, couples Bachata dance, yoga, welding, quilting, and much more. See what’s being offered this summer and register at www.npc.edu/noncredit-classes.
