Calling all actors, actresses, performers, dancers, and more! Northland Pioneer College (NPC) will hold auditions for the college’s fall production of Hello, DOLLY! on Tuesday, August 22, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center located on the Snowflake/Taylor – Silver Creek Campus, 1611 S. Main St.
Hello, DOLLY! is based on the play The Matchmaker, by Thornton Wilder and the book by Michael Stewart. The story centers on Mrs. Dolly Levi’s efforts to marry Horace Vandergelder, the well-known half-a-millionaire, and send his money circulating among the people like rainwater, the way her late husband, Ephraim Levi, taught her. Along the way she also succeeds in matching up the young and beautiful Widow Molloy with Vandergelder’s head clerk, Cornelius Hackl; Cornelius’ assistant, Barnaby Tucker, with Mrs. Molloy’s assistant, Minnie Fay; and the struggling artist, Ambrose Kemper, with Mr. Vandergelder’s weeping niece, Ermengarde. What happens in the end? Dolly gets her man, of course, and even makes him glad she caught him!
The play’s director, NPC Faculty in Theater and Speech, Carson Saline, notes “I’m looking for actors who can bring a lot of character to a role. Dolly is a force to be reckoned with, so her actor needs to have a lot of personality. Horace is a lovable grouch, so a character actor would fit the bill well,” he explains. “This is one of the most enjoyable ‘ensemble shows’ I’ve ever performed. I’m particularly hoping for strong versatile performers to flesh out our ensemble and be the backbone of this production. Dancers, movers, singers, actors… come play with us!” Auditions will consist of musical performances and a dance call and are open to everyone.
Those wishing to audition should have read the play and become familiar with the characters. Performers should prepare two (2) contrasting song cuts from music of a style similar to Hello, DOLLY! Each song cut should be no longer than one minute in length. An accompanist will be provided. Appointments to audition must be made online at www.npc.edu/auditions. See the website for more information including descriptions of the play’s characters and tips on auditioning.
Hello, DOLLY! is produced through a licensing agreement with Concord Theatricals. Fall performances will be held at NPC’s Performing Arts Center in Snowflake, AZ, this November.
