Ways to help NPC students

The Eagle Fund is an unrestricted, current-use fund that provides NPC Friends & Family board members with maximum flexibility for responding quickly to new opportunities and to meet unexpected needs. Your gift goes directly where it's needed most – to help current NPC students.

One of the most powerful and immediate ways you can help students is by giving to The Eagle Fund. Annual contributions are more important than you might realize. Tuition only covers about 14 percent of the actual cost of educating an NPC student. NPC serves the two poorest counties in Arizona which is why we strive to keep our tuition rate as low as possible. Access to higher education is out of reach for many here, but your annual gift can help bridge the gap and keep an NPC education within reach of all deserving students. Your gift to this annual fund, regardless of the size, is important. When combined with other Eagle Fund gifts from alumni and friends, it adds up to big support for NPC students.

Most Eagle Fund donors do not designate a specific project or program preference with their donation and their gift is used where it is most needed as determined by the NPC Friends & Family Governing Board. However, you can designate a project or program you would like to support through the Eagle Fund by indicating your preference in the memo box on our donation form.

An endowed scholarship can create a lasting legacy while benefiting generations of NPC students. An endowed scholarship is a permanent fund, managed by NPC Friends & Family, in which the principal remains intact and invested at all times. Scholarships are awarded from the allocated income earned on the principal investment according to the donor's wishes.

Funding can occur through an outright gift of cash, appreciated stock or through a multi-year pledge as well as bequest or other planned giving instruments (e.g. gift annuities, trusts, etc.).

Endowed scholarships are an opportunity to perpetuate your own interest in NPC or to recognize or memorialize a loved one, friend, classmate, or business.

A charitable bequest enables you to meet your goals as a philanthropist, while potentially providing you and/or your heirs substantial tax savings. Your gift may be in the form of cash, securities, real estate, or other property. You specify that NPC Friends & Family Inc. is to receive a certain amount or percentage of your estate, particular assets, or the remainder of your estate after providing for heirs.  Some examples of  planned giving are:

• Specific bequests are used to make a gift of a specific dollar amount or specific assets, such as securities, real estate, or personal property.
• Life insurance policies,  naming NPC Friends & Family as the beneficiary, enable you to establish a charitable legacy, while preserving other assets for your heirs.
• Residuary bequests are used to give all or a portion of the rest, residue, and remainder of your estate after payment of expenses and any specific amounts designated to other beneficiaries.

Friends & Family scholarships take financial need into consideration. For example, the Leg-Up Scholarship is for students who do not qualify for financial aid, but have unmet financial need that is a barrier to their education. The Fill-the-Gaps Scholarship is for students who do qualify for financial aid, but still have an unmet financial need. The Emergency Fund grant helps students with unforeseen expenses (such as stolen textbooks or automotive issues) that immediately threaten a student's educational progress and puts them at risk of dropping out. Gifts to the Eagle Fund support these scholarships. 

Restricted scholarships are individual funds, created by donors to support specific populations of NPC students and/or to honor or memorialize an individual or cause. They vary in their terms, amounts, and focus. Setting up a restricted scholarship fund can be a way to give back to your community or honor a loved one. NPC Friends & Family will work with you to document mutually agreed-upon guidelines that govern the use and spending of the fund.

NPC Friends & Family and its partners present a variety of fundraising events throughout the year. It is a chance for supporters of Northland Pioneer College to volunteer their time and resources. Some of NPC Friends & Family events include:

• Arizona Gives Day
• The NPC Friends and Family Scholarship Disc Golf Tournament at Four Seasons Disc Golf Course
• The Pedal the Petrified bike tour at the Petrified Forest National Park near Holbrook, AZ
