What is NPCFlex (Hyflex)?
NPC's Hyflex course delivery option (NPCFlex) is a combination of Hybrid and Flexible learning.
HyFlex = Hybrid + Flexible
THE NPCFLEX COURSE DELIVERY MODALITY AT NPC:
NPCFlex is a new Hyflex course delivery mode that is being piloted for some courses at NPC.
NPCFlex students have the option of attending any class session through one of the three options:
- Live on campus;
- Live online;
- Watch the recorded lecture
NOTE: NPCFlex students must select the campus/center of their choice when registering to ensure a seat is available for the live on-campus option.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF NPCFLEX?
There are many benefits of NPC's Hyflex learning:
- Serve more students in the same physical space
- Increase student enrollment (by appealing to students’ desire to control aspects of their learning environment),
- Increase student retention (by providing student participation flexibility)
- Prepare for business continuity in the event of a natural disaster or pandemic.

NPCFLEX FOR INSTRUCTORS
INSTRUCTOR TIPS FOR HYFLEX (NPCFLEX) TEACHING
-
Realize that students will sometimes be physically present in the classroom while at other times they will be “present” online.
-
Post all class materials on an online platform, generally in Moodle.
-
Conduct class synchronously via WebEx or Zoom. You may choose to record if you want materials that can be reviewed by students at a later date or time.
-
If you need help with engaging students who attend remotely or designing your Hyflex course, contact an Instructional Designer in the ITCS Department at NPC.
NPCFLEX SYLLABUS STATEMENTS: On the syllabus, instructors should provide the minimum technology that students will need to access and use in an NPCFlex class. In addition, a statement about the NPCFlex modality should be stated in the Syllabus for a Hyflex Course. Here is an example of a Hyflex Syllabus statement: This course is delivered in the “HyFlex” format. Students may attend class in person each week or alternatively participate in online activities. This choice may be made on a weekly basis. The attendance and participation policy will be discussed during class the first week of the class. Additional questions should be addressed to the instructor.
The Hyflex classes are normally scheduled in a Connected Classroom at one of the NPC campus/centers. The Connected Classroom room kit includes several monitors, smartboard, student desks, and multimedia equipment for instructor and student use. Using the technologies in the Connected Classrooms including WebEx, the Hyflex instructor and students in the class will be able to see and interact with students who are joining the class from remote locations. The instructor can also record the session and the video and material in their course shell in Moodle for students to view offline. Here are training videos and other resources for using the CISCO Connected Classrooms at NPC:
