NPC's College and Career Preparation (CCP) department can help you get back to college by brushing up your basic skills such as reading, math and writing. It's never to late to improve your education! If you're an adult looking to improve your basic education skills for employment, to earn your GED or to prepare for college level courses, NPC's college reentry program can help!
Our instructors have helped many adult students in northern Arizona just like you to succeed. We'll help you find the courses that best fit your learning needs and goals. NPC offers classes in a variety of instructional levels from basic literacy to high school equivalency to prerequisites for college-level classes. Our CCP courses even integrate workforce skills to provide you with real-world applications of what you are learning. All CCP courses are aligned to the Arizona Adult Education Standards.

NPC offers an Adult Basic Education Program Tuition Scholarship for students who are seeking a high school equivalency diploma (GED). This scholarship is specifically designed to provide more access to adult basic education (ABE) through CCP courses. The ABE scholarship pays for tuition and fees for qualifying courses and is offered to students who meet eligibility criteria on a first-come, first-served basis. Find out more below.

Reading & Writing Courses
NPC's Adult Literacy Courses utilize the Laubach method to improve reading, writing and vocabulary skills.
Literacy

Introduction to beginning reading and writing to build a foundation based in everyday activities and career readiness utilizing the Laubach method. - CCP 020 • Literacy II
Introduction to second level of reading and writing skills utilizing Laubach method with emphasis on sight and written vocabulary. Continued use of technology as it applies to career readiness. - CCP 030 • Literacy III
Level three literacy skills including reading and writing words with long and short vowel patterns, diagramming parts of speech, increased reading and writing vocabulary, applying the writing process to a variety of writing products will enhance keyboard skills.

Reading and writing skills are integrated with science and social studies to create proficiency in independently disseminating complex information in a variety of context areas.
Mathematical Application Courses

Instruction, practice and practical applications in mathematical basics including whole numbers, place value, money, addition, subtraction, data, patterns, geometric shapes, measurement and digital literacy. Level one numeracy skills contextualized in college and career applications. - CCP 068 • Mathematical Application II
Instruction and practice of foundational math skills with real-world applications for work, home and continuing education. - CCP 078 • Mathematical Applications III
A comprehensive approach to mathematical concepts for application in the workforce with math instruction and practice using real-world careers with each concept. This is a preparation course for college and career readiness. - CCP 088 • Beginning Algebra with Applications
Beginning algebra through mathematical exploration and modeling of real problems. Topics include signed numbers, measurement, one and two variable data, linear equations, graphing and polynomials.
English Language Acquisition for Adults
The English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA) program is located primarily at the White Mountain Campus in Show Low and provides face to face instruction as well as guided instruction for students wishing to learn or improve their use of the English language. Students receive approximately 6 hours of instruction per week. Contact the CCP Learning Assistant at your local NPC campus or center for more information (see Learning Assistants tab on this page).
High School Equivalency Preparation
- CCP 077 • High School Equivalency Prep I - Introduction to Arizona’s high school equivalency content, study and test skill strategies. Instruction designed to improve student’s basic skills while building confidence.
- CCP 084 • High School Equivalency Prep: Civics - Introduction to Arizona’s high school equivalency civics content. Instruction is designed to increase student’s content knowledge and improve basic skills while building confidence in the test-taking process.
- CCP 087 • High School Equivalency Exam Prep ll - Content review, study preparation, and confidence building to complete one or more sub-tests of the Arizona high school equivalency exam.
- CCP 098 • High School Equivalency Ready - Provides students with test taking strategies, computer skill assessments, and high school equivalency practice tests to determine readiness to pass the Arizona high school equivalency test.
Workforce Readiness Skills

Enhances soft skills and provides instruction and practice with workforce skills in three key subject areas: reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information, plus soft skills in Work Discipline, Teamwork, Managerial Potential, and Customer Service Orientation. Includes National Career Readiness Certificate Plus preparation and WorkKeys Assessment. - CCP 107 • Workforce Skills II
Advanced workforce skills in three key subject areas: Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information plus skills in Customer Service, Problem Solving and Critical Thinking. Emphasis will be placed on developing a functional Résumé and refining interview skills.
- Student Writing Centers provide all current students with facilities, equipment and technical assistance for completing college writing assignments and résumés for FREE! See locations. Note: Students must complete a SHORT, one-time orientation to use the Writing Center resources.

The ABE Tuition Scholarship is provided to students through an Arizona Department of Education grant. The state scholarship is designed to provide public access to adult basic education through NPC's College and Career Preparation (CCP) courses. ABE scholarships pay for tuition and fees for qualifying courses and are offered to students meeting eligibility criteria on a first-come, first-served basis.
Eligibility for the ABE Tuition Scholarship is based on the following criteria:
- Completion of Opportunities Through Education class, CCP 055x Opportunities Through Education
- Lack of a high school diploma or GED; students with GED or high school diploma MUST have placement below ASE I in the subject area to be studied
- Ability to attend four or more hours of class EACH week for EACH CCP course
- Not currently receiving any other grant or financial aid
- Not currently enrolled in high school
- At least 16 years of age
- Qualified for in-state tuition
ABE Tuition Scholarships are managed at each NPC location on a first-come, first-served basis. Further eligibility requirements may apply based on the discretion of the NPC ABE budget manager.
Eligibility for federal financial aid (FAFSA) funding is limited for students required to take "pre-college" work at NPC. Only the following nine courses are eligible:
