Weather Closings/Cancellations

If weather conditions or other emergencies force the closure of an NPC campus or center, an announcement will be made via:

  • Here on the homepage of this website, www.npc.edu
  • Local radio stations serving the affected area
  • NPC's Automated Emergency Alert System which will send notifications to students and staff via land line, cellphone, email or text message. Students and staff should check their NPC email accounts if weather conditions could result in a closure.

NPC's Closure Policy:

As a general rule, classes will NOT be canceled, so faculty and students need to exercise judgment regarding travel to campuses and centers for classes in severe weather conditions.

  1. Short of a two-county disaster area being declared, the college as a whole NEVER closes because of weather due to the distance between campuses and centers. If such a disaster occurs, the decision to close will be made by the college president.
  2. When checking for closures, you must listen for the specific name of the campus or center where you attend class for closings, NOT just for Northland Pioneer College.
  3. The decision to close an individual NPC facility will be made by the Vice President for Learning and Student Services, based on information from local law enforcement, ADOT and NPC personnel.
  4. In the event of a very severe weather situation, an individual campus or center might be closed for a period of time. Please check daily for closures.
  5. When time permits, students will be notified by phone of individual class cancellations.
  6. If a class is missed because of weather conditions, a make-up date will be scheduled.
  7. Students are responsible for making up any work missed.
