NOTE: Students who graduate with an NPC degree in early childhood (AAS or AAEC) are automatically accepted into the BAS, ECE degree program provided they maintain continuous enrollment. For admission, continuously enrolled graduates must meet with the Educator Preparation Program advising team to update their degree intent within one semester of graduation. Contact the program at EducatorPrep@npc.edu to schedule. Students who have an earned degree in another major, or who have not maintained continuous enrollment must apply for admission into the BAS, ECE program.
Only complete applications received in the Educator Preparation Programs Office by November 1, at NOON will be considered for admission. Late applications will be considered on a space available basis if they meet the admission criteria, but will not be accepted before applications submitted on time.
PLEASE SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
- Completed, signed application (including student information, program requirements page, and signature page).
- If an NPC graduate, a copy of your transcripts showing your awarded Associate degree (or higher).
- If a non-NPC graduate, a copy of your official transcripts in a sealed envelope.
- Proof of FAFSA application submission (even if not eligible for financial aid).
- A copy of your current Arizona DPS Identity Verified Prints (IVP) card with Level 1 Clearance. Apply at: https://psp.azdps.gov.
Plan ahead as the process requires at least 6-8 weeks or more. (If your application is still being processed, enclose a copy of your receipt.) - A 2-3 page, typed (12pt font), double-spaced “personal essay.” The essay should address the following:
- What is your philosophy of education, and specifically why is early childhood important for children and communities?
- Why do you wish to attend the BAS program at NPC;
- a description of your professional/career and educational goals;
- what you have done to date to meet your goals;
- an explanation of your commitment to maintaining enrollment and completing the program in two years; and
- what value do you bring to NPC’s bachelor’s degree program?
You are responsible for making sure that all of the required documents are received in the Educator Preparation Programs Department office on time. If any item is missing from the application at the time applications are due, your entire application will be considered late.
EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAM NOTICE OF NO GUARANTEE OF CERTIFICATION
Admission or graduation from the Program does not guarantee obtaining a license or certificate to teach. Certification requirements and the subsequent procedures are the exclusive right and responsibility of the Arizona Department of Education (ADE). Students must satisfy the requirements of teacher certification as established by current legislation and implemented by the ADE. Although this explanation and handbook materials may provide information concerning the certification process, the teacher candidate is solely responsible for understanding and meeting certification requirements for the state in which they wish to teach. NPC does not guarantee the accuracy of any of the information presented here or in any other materials presented to the teacher candidate concerning the certification process. Verifying the accuracy of such information is solely the responsibility of the candidate.Current Arizona DPS IVP card with Level 1 Clearance is part of the application process for all bachelor’s degree programs in the Educator Preparation Programs Department.
