Meet new friends while exploring the history, culture and scenic sights of Northeastern Arizona in Northland Pioneer College’s new noncredit Learning Adventures Excursions.

These day trips originate from NPC’s four campus communities, with transportation, reservations and instructor provided by NPC. Details, including itineraries and registration requirements, are available online at www.npc.edu/noncredit-classes or by calling (928) 536-6244. Sign up at least four days prior to the excursions since van seating is limited. Bring water, a sack lunch or money to purchase your own meals and comfortable walking shoes. A liability waiver is required by each participant.

Ten excursions have been planned for this summer and early fall. Explore the great outdoors in Greer on Thursday, May 17. Greer Peaks Lodge will be providing a guided hike, canoeing, kayaking and fishing experience (Arizona fishing license required). The cost is just $45 per person.

You don’t have to have any experience to create a fun work of art as we visit Kittle’s Art Supplies in Show Low on Friday, June 8 for a pottery painting adventure. Choose from a variety of ceramic pieces, then enjoy laughing and the company of others as you learn to paint and finish your piece. Cost is $48 per person.

On Tuesday, June 26, explore the Petrified Forest National Park, east of Holbrook. We’ll drive through the park, visit the museums and historic Painted Desert Inn. A Ranger-guided (mild) hike through Crystal Forest will bring you closer to the beautiful petrified logs. Cost is $45 per person.

Experience the art, history and culture of Winslow and Route 66 on Monday, July 16. You’ve heard the Eagle’s song and now you’ll have a chance to be Standin’ on the Corner in Winslow, Arizona as we visit the downtown mural, experience the Snowdrift Art Studio, tour the Old Trails Museum and don’t miss the tour of the famous La Posada Hotel led by the modern-day Harvey Girls. Cost is $45 per person.

Explore the Fort Apache Historic Park on Tuesday, July 24. Experience Apache history and culture. The excursion includes a guided tour of the Kinishba ruins, exhibits and museums. Go back in time and immerse yourself in Apache culture. Cost is $45 per person.

Walk through history as we explore the Rock Art Ranch, near Joseph City, on Monday, August 6. The ranch has a pioneer-cowboy and Anasazi museum and a canyon full of petroglyphs. Enjoy this owner-guided tour of this historic Arizona ranch. Be sure to wear sturdy, comfortable shoes for the (mild) hike. Cost is $40 per person.

We’ll be traveling to Springerville/Eagar on Thursday, August 23 to visit the ancient ruins and rock art of Casa Malpais. There is a guided tour, approximately ¾-mile hike that goes up 150 feet in elevation and includes some steep, rocky sections. Then we’ll head over to the Heritage Museum to observe the art, artifacts and local history of the area. Cost is $45 per person.

View the breath-taking and best-preserved Meteor Crater near Winslow on Wednesday, September 12. Learn the mystery behind the crater and explore the museum’s interactive exhibits. Experience the guided rim trail tour and lookout areas. There is mild hiking involved. You won’t want to miss this Arizona wonder. Cost is $40 per person.

Have you ever wanted to take amazing outdoor photos? Join our Greens Peak Scenic Photography Hike on Thursday, September 27 and you’ll get tips and training on how to capture eye-popping photos of the outdoors. Designed for photographers of all skill levels. You’ll definitely need sturdy, comfortable walking shoes, water, a sack lunch and your camera with an extra memory card for this excursion. Mild hiking involved. Cost is $45 per person.

The final outing of this year’s series will be to Homolovi State Park, outside of Winslow, on Tuesday, October 9. A ranger will describe the park’s history, then lead a tour of the IV and II site ruins and ancient petroglyphs. During lunch, local artist Gwen Setella will give a pottery demonstration. Immerse yourself in the culture and history that surround us in northeastern Arizona. Cost is $45 per person. You’ll need water, sack lunch and comfortable walking shoes for the mild hike.
