Learning Adventures Excursions

Meet new friends while exploring the history, culture and scenic sights of Northeastern Arizona in Northland Pioneer College’s new noncredit Learning Adventures Excursions.

These day trips originate from NPC’s four campus communities, with transportation, reservations and instructor provided by NPC. Details, including itineraries and registration requirements, are available online at www.npc.edu/noncredit-classes or by calling (928) 536-6244. Sign up at least four days prior to the excursions, since van seating is limited. Bring water, a sack lunch or money to purchase your own meals.

August Learning Adventures Excursions

Eight excursions have been planned for this fall.

On Wednesday, August 23, explore the Petrified Forest National Park, east of Holbrook. We'll drive through the park, visit the museums and historic Desert Inn. A Ranger-guided (mild) hike through Crystal Forest will bring you closer to the beautiful petrified logs. Cost is $45 per person.

On Monday, August 28, we'll head to Sunrise Ski Resort to enjoy their summer activities, including their scenic ski lift, tubing hill, rock wall, bungee trampoline jump and air bag jump. Be a kid again, experiencing summer as it should be experienced. Cost is $49 per person.  There will be an additional charge for some rides.

You don't have to any experience to create a fun work of art as we visit Kittle's Art Supplies in Show Low on Wednesday, September 6. Enjoy laughing and the company of others as you learn how to create a piece of art for a personalized holiday gift. Nonalcoholic beverages furnished. Cost is $48 per person.

Geologist and Museum Director Douglas Wolfe will meet adventurers at the White Mountain Dinosaur Exploration Center in Springerville on Monday, September 11. You'll tour the center, then travel to local geologic sites representing ancient oceans, fossil forests and some of the youngest large volcanoes in North America. Cost is $48 per person. Wear study, comfortable walking shoes.

Walk through history as we explore the Rock Art Ranch, near Joseph City, on Thursday, September 21. The ranch has a pioneer-cowboy and Anasazi museum and a canyon full of petroglyphs. Enjoy this owner-guided tour of this historic Arizona ranch. Be sure to wear study, comfortable shoes for the (mild) hike. Cost is $40 per person.

You've heard the Eagle's song and now you'll have a chance to be Standin' on the Corner in Winslow, Arizona as we visit the downtown mural, museum and tour the historic La Posada Hotel with its art collection on Monday, September 25. Come explore the wonders of Arizona with us! Cost is $45 per person.

What is Disc Golf? Here's your opportunity to learn more about this combination of Frisbee and traditional ball golf. It is fun for all ages, a great workout, challenging yet innovative, and with its laid-back environment is taking the White Mountains by storm. Join us on Wednesday, October 4 at the Show Low City Park course to learn the basics of the sport. It will be a day you won't forget. Cost is $40 per person.

Fall in the White Mountains brings out the vivid colors as the aspen leaves turn gold and crimson. On Tuesday, October 10, we're heading to Greens Peak, between McNary and Eagar, for professional advice on capturing eye-popping photos of the outdoors. Designed for photographers of all skill levels. You'll definitely need study, comfortable walking shoes and your camera with an extra memory card for this excursion. Cost is $45 per person.

Sign up for the Learning Adventures Excursions at least four days before the trip to ensure it is not canceled due to insufficient enrollment and because seating is limited. Register at any NPC location during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays.
