Auditions set for fall musical production

SNOWFLAKE/TAYLOR – Northland Pioneer College’s Performing Arts Department is conducting auditions for November performances of 9 to 5, the Musical on Tuesday and Thursday, August 15 and 17, from 6 to 10 p.m. on both nights, at the NPC Performing Arts Center on the Snowflake/Taylor – Silver Creek Campus, 1611 S. Main St.

9 ti 5 the Musical

Performing Arts and show Director Dr. Mike Solomonson recommends preparing a one-minute comic or dramatic monologue of your choice, and 16 bars of a Broadway-style song. An accompanist will be available to play if provided sheet music. There will also be cold readings from the script as part of the audition process. Music Theatre International, the performance licensing company, rates the script PG-13 for drug references and some adult language.

9 to 5 The Musical, with music and lyrics by Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.

Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with Mr. Hart — the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she?

This high-energy show is ideal for a large, mostly female cast, but also has opportunities for talented male performers, notes Solomonson.  The musical also has a multi-media component that will be coordinated by Mark Ford, NPC's Film and Digital Video faculty member, and his students.
