NPC’s Mexican Folklore Dance Club 11th Annual Winter Recital, Dec. 11

Get ready for an evening of colorful entertainment as Aquilas de Oro, Northland Pioneer College’s Mexican Folklore Dance Club, hosts its 11th annual Winter Recital on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, starting at 6:30 p.m., at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, 100 W. Mahoney St., in Winslow. There is no admission charge, but donations are accepted.

Apron sales benefit scholarship fund

The NPC Classified and Administrative Staff Organization (CASO) is selling NPC aprons, with all proceeds going to student scholarships. Orders must be placed by Nov. 14, 2008.Aprons are available in Royal (modeled by White Mountain Campus Receptist Cynthia Paulson), Red, Forest and Black for $15 each or Denim for $17.

Creating workers, not just welders

The din of conversation dies abruptly when welding instructor Curtis Casey opens the door from his office to enter the classroom filled with eager students. As he silently takes attendance, he calls on individual students to give short descriptions of current events. Politics and gas prices are generally "off limits," but he allows a student to share that a local station's price had dropped below $2.90 a gallon (in late October 2008).

Navajo History Speaker Series

The public is invited to join Northland Pioneer College students on Wednesday evenings in learning more about Navajo history and culture through a series of guest speakers in Dr. Michael Lawson's Navajo History course.

NPC hosts Reiki Clinic, Nov. 15

Therapeutic massage students at Northland Pioneer College's Show Low - White Mountain Campus will be offering a Reiki Clinic on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in building M4. Early booking is encouraged since appointment times fill rapidly. There is a $10 charge for the one-hour Reiki session. Patrons should bring a twin sheet and a towel. NPC Network Outage Update, Nov. 11

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 5:30 p.m.The network upgrade for Internet service is complete, with the transition from Cybertrails at the Holbrook – Painted Desert Campus to CellularONE at the Show Low – White Mountain Campus.

Tickets available for two NPC fall plays

Tickets are now available for Northland Pioneer College Performing Arts Department's November performances of As It Is In Heaven and 1776:The Musical at the Snowflake/Taylor - Silver Creek Campus Performing Arts Center. Dinner theatre tickets are only available in advance for $22 per person, with show-only performances $4 in advance or $6 at the door. NPC students and staff with ID are eligible for a $1 discount to show-only performances. Dinner theatre begins at 6 o'clock, with show-only performances at 7:30 p.m.

NPC to participate in new public transit service

Northland Pioneer College will partner with Navajo County, and the municipalities of Holbrook, Snowflake, Taylor, Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside to provide public transit service at least three times a day along the State Route 77 corridor. NPC's governing board endorsed the resolution creating the transit link during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 in Holbrook.

Network Services Interruption, Nov. 7 - 9

Northland Pioneer College takes another major step forward to improve service for its students as the Information Services Department and contractors complete new links between the Holbrook, Show Low and Winslow campuses. The process will disrupt all network services at NPC beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, with services restored no later than 7 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10.
